This class of standing postures leading up to the standing balancing pose of Utthita Hasta Padangustasana has the theme of Svadhyaya. Svadhyaya means study of the scriptures, self study or self-refelection. One of the great elements of a yoga practice is the increased sensitivity and receptivity that develops, much the same like the muscles getting stronger and more flexible. Self-reflection is the way we apply the knowledge of yoga to our own bodies and lives.
