The strength of the core muscles is vital in a correct practice, allowing for the health of the back and the support of standing and seated postures. Chaturanga Dandasana is practiced with different variations. The practice starts gradually, introducing the awareness of the core of the body and then moving into dynamic Sun Salutation. We then move into a strong standing sequence, taking the concept of core awareness a bit further into the practice. The seated postures include Navasana, Purvottanasana and Upavista Konasana, with twists to counterbalance the practice.
