Hanuman's super powers! Finding your way through

A Hanumanasana class that looks at the physical pose of 'splitting' the legs and daily challenges of being pulled in different directions. With an approach of stretching the big muscles on the fronts and backs of the legs and a few hip rotations, we arrive at the peak pose of Hanumanasana while discovering that we all have the inherent SuperPowers of Hanuman already inside and making the mystical seem manageable!

Light in the shadows

This gentle(ish) class has a physical focus on opening the chest, shoulders & hips and a thematic focus on bringing light into the dark places where emotions hide. When life gives you challenges and emotions come up, it is easy to push them aside, ignore them or even ‘numb’ them with external distractions. In fact, our emotions are important gauges of our current state and should be given room to be free. We begin with a brief meditation and relaxing pose to breathe open the torso then through a few standing poses to help open the hips. Then to the floor for backbends and an inversion with the final relaxation to bring light into the body and let the heart have room to be free. PROPS: Bolster or blanket are helpful. Block for standing poses is helpful.

The universe exists in vibration

The universe exists in vibration

11:01

The universe exists in vibration

The Universe exists in vibration. This fact of science gives the Yogi information that all things in the universe, including our bodies, thoughts and energies are also vibration and can thus be manipulated. This short lecture brings up the concepts and questions of how we use body awareness to explore the roots of our actions and looking deeper to see how the roots of our thoughts affect the world we live in. When we can find ways to positively create vibrations in the world, we are surrounded by them. If we surround ourselves with ‘negative’ vibrations then are surrounded by them too! With clear and conscious thought and especially using Mantra chanting as a way to harmonize our vibrations with the divine, we find ourselves surrounded by divine energy more and more.

Body prayer

We flow slowly and mindfully, but slow can mean it takes more attention and strength to do it. So not necessarily easy... Pray with your body and let the energy we create with the practice flow to someone, or a situation that we want to give it to.

Stop trying to relax!

Stop trying to relax!

11:25

Stop trying to relax!

An exploration of what it really means to be present. Jeff invites us to let go of all our future goals, including even our goals of 'relaxation', 'healing' or 'being present', and to embrace the present moment exactly as it is! The mind will turn anything (including 'relaxation') into a goal, a future scene in the movie of our lives, somewhere to 'get to'. It can become very stressful, trying to relax! Healing always involves returning to the present moment, honoring it, bowing to it, whatever shape it takes. Jeff explains that being present does not mean that you instantly feel better, or pain instantly goes away, or tension immediately disappears. This expectation can lead to much disappointment. Being present could actually result in more intense sensations, more powerful feelings. Sometimes you have to ALLOW yourself to feel more tense, before relaxation happens. Presence makes no distinction between tension and relaxation; it allows them both. This realization can provide huge relief. Jeff offers an invitation to remember how vast you are, how much life you can hold, how huge your heart is!

Holding on to let go

In this insightful yoga practice, explore some of the more familiar standing and seated postures held for a longer time. Physically this strengthens the body, affirming the posture in the body's muscle memory. The practice also gives you the opportunity to experience the practice upon a deeper level, enabling you to explore the psychological aspects of your yoga practice, your approach and your intention.

Jai Ma Durga - Courageous heart practice

Jai, Jai Ma! This class is all about Durga - her myth, mudra, mantra, breathwork, poses... Especially for those who loved my short Durga Mantra class - this is a full, all-round practice. Reconnect with Durga’s loving and fierce energy to slay all our inner demons in the forms in which they appear: worry, doubt, hatred, longing for power. Durga teaches us to not doubt ourselves, to live our truth and to look at ourselves with loving eyes.

To be or not to be! That is the way to start the day

A wonderfully diverse yoga sequence for waking up in the morning that begins lying your back with some basic stretches and setting a clear distinction between your TO 'DO' LIST and TO 'BE' LIST. The sequence includes some sun salute variations to awaken major muscle groups and some standing poses to get steady for the day. Throughout the class you are doing you are invited to set your clear intentions for ways of BEing so that you have an underlying energy of your own intentions to carry you through the day.

Shoot the intention arrow

This is my go-to practice in times of confusion and sluggishness. Finding our true motivations and looking them right in the face is sometimes the best way to reconnect with our practice and our life. We'll work to find our true intentions and place them where we can reach them. We'll need a rolled up blanket or mat for mobilising the spine in the beginning.

Opening to the experience of simply being

Opening to the experience of simply being

32:23

Opening to the experience of simply being

Do you ever find yourself lost in thought, burdened by the demands of a modern lifestyle? Can you remember the simple joys you may have experienced as a child, of watching a leaf fall from a tree or the sound of birdsong? Use this joyful practice to let go, to surrender to the experience of simply being. This class can be practiced either seated upon the floor or in the comfort of a chair. After a few moments of grounding, your body and breath combine in a breath-coordinated movement, a simple twist and then some Savitri pranayama for a few rounds. The practice finishes either seated or lying down with a visualisation and relaxation.

Myth and Asana: Open up and receive

It’s only when we open up and make space that we can receive. Opening up creates space for new experiences, breath, movement and maybe even a magical half-snake, half-baby. In this class, you’ll find out how one of yoga’s best known sages ended up with a snake tail. Of course, you’ll also practise poses and breathing exercises to open you up so you can receive.
