A morning practice that serves to wake up your body, work on some strength and mobility while minimising the amount of energy used. These concepts will flow physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually in this well-rounded practice that has a little bit of everything.This class was streamed live on 9 February 2024.

Here’s one of David Lurey’s Throwback Thursday choices - one of his first super dynamic fitness style classes. And if you’re wondering how David can talk while doing Mountain Climbers – us too! Some of my favourite cross training exercises, combined with yoga poses and a little touch of 'feel good talk'. This class is a super sequence to build upper body and abdominal strength, focus and even cardio vascular enhancement. Not much else to say other than... if you want a Workout Yoga Blast, here it is!

A wrist-friendly practice for the end of a long day (or any other time!) that uses Child’s Pose as a foundation to move around in other ways. The whole practice is slow and low to the ground and requires fairly strong and stable knees as we’ll be on them quite a lot. We will move the ankles, knees, hips, spine and shoulders and eventually finish lying down.

A sequence of mobility and stability for the hip joints to help relieve pain and support long term joint health. Most of this sequence is on the ground and we address most directions of the hip joint with strength and flexibility. Props: block and belt.

This class, streamed live on Tuesday 21st November 2023, brings us together in movement, mindfulness and mantra even though we're separated and scattered around the globe. There are various movements for opening the hips, releasing the back and calming the mind - all in all, a nice, feel-good flow.

Addressing both the physical and energetic hearts, this practice invites you to pay attention to your heartbeat through dynamic movement practices and the energetic impact of being alive. We start with a little ‘heart center awareness’ practice and gentle mobilisation. From there, get ready for Jumping Jacks (sorry about the microphone) and then onto various waves of yoga poses and backbends to stimulate the physical and energetic hearts. In between some of the Vinyasa waves, we’ll return to physical heart stimulation with some exercises. Eventually, we reach Bow pose as the most ‘intense’ backbend and find a peaceful rest in Savasana. Be sure to stick around for the Savasana Serenade and sing along: Let the Way of the Heart Shine Though.

As the title implies, there’s a bit of everything in this 45 minute sequence. We’ll begin with rolling the joints and from there a little mobilisation on the ground. Then we move into the flow part of the practice that will move you up and down, front to back and side to side. We’ll do some twists, some standing poses and some seated postures and to round it all out, a little shoulder stand inversion and supported bridge.You'll need a block for this class.

Here’s a chance to practice the standing series of Ashtanga yoga in a calm and gentle way. The inspiration from this class came from a comment posted in another class and reminded me of sequences and practices I used to do, but don’t do so much anymore. We practice three Sun Salute As, two Sun Salute Bs and then the standing poses of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga in a slower, more meditative way while your old friend, the breath, keeps visiting! After the standing poses, a little time in supported Bridge pose followed by a visualisation of old friends to fill the heart with vibrations from the past, while keeping love in the present.Props: two blocks

Three poses, each held for a while, to give space and allow feelings of aloneness. This is a deep practice of self-reflection and self-discovery. The poses are secondary to the time looking inwards and allowing emotions to be rather than pushing them away with false happiness or distraction. You will need a bolster, blankets, block. David references Rumi's poem:This being human is a guest house.Every morning a new arrival.A joy, a depression, a meanness,some momentary awareness comesas an unexpected visitor.Welcome and entertain them all!Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,who violently sweep your houseempty of its furniture,still, treat each guest honorably.He may be clearing you outfor some new delight.The dark thought, the shame, the malice.meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.Be grateful for whatever comes.because each has been sentas a guide from beyond.

A 10 minute guided inquiry into life’s three important questions.

A 'David classic' revisited in a short 15 minute, dedicated sequence. This is ideal for first thing in the morning, before going to bed or as an 'opener' to your yoga / movement practice. We will take a tour through all the main movements of most of the joints of the body to stimulate energy, soften stuck tissues, open with courage and act with love.

This chapter in my long-running Mindful Mellow Flow series is an extra-mellow one as I know previous versions may have gotten a bit sweaty or un-mellow! We are accompanied by a beautiful musical soundtrack called The Sound of Soulence for a slow, methodical opening of the hips and spine. We start on the knees, which can be adapted as necessary, and then move into some hip mobilisation done lying on the floor. From there, some mellow movements eventually carry us to Anantasana – Lord Vishnu’s Couch pose – which calls for great presence and concentration. In the final few minutes we practice a seated meditation and are carried away in sound...

Prepare yourself for a journey into your hip joints. We practice five poses, all done lying on the floor, to allow space to grow and tension to disappear. We start with knee to chest, then a twist. Lying Tree and then internal rotation finish the bi-lateral work... and we’ll conclude with a short open Bridge to neutralise.Props: Bolster and block.

Like most natural objects on earth, this class begins on the ground and grows towards the sky. We start with some spine and hip mobilisation close to the floor and eventually make our way to a few standing poses where, like flowers, we move towards the light! This is a short movement experience suitable for any time of the day.

There is no such thing as 'quick enlightenment' ... but in the context of a 20 minute yoga practice, lightening up is definitely possible! We start right away with some Sun Salute variations to awaken the light within. A few standing poses and some squats, and voila: 20 minutes invested in your illumination! Shine brightly.

The sacred syllable OM. Four sounds that blend together: 'Aaah' in the pelvic floor for the physical body / 'Ohhh' in the back of the heart for the emotional center / 'Mmmmm' in the head for the intellect –followed by the sound of silence for the Spirit. This short, guided session has us chanting the sound 27 times, which is 1/4 of 108. 108 is a sacred number in yogic philosophy, so you can repeat the class 4 times and have a full OM KAUR practice (chanting the sound 108 times).

Get ready to generate a blast of prana (life force) through your whole body! This shorter, dynamic class moves quickly, and we’ll start by working into the arms and shoulders and circulate energy with our exhalations. After creating heat in the upper body, we'll work into the hips and legs and finish with a delicious bit of core work to become aware of the life force flowing within. This is a great class when you’re short on time and need an energy boost, or when you want a little workout, or even as an opening sequence before you drop into Yin or restorative mode! You'll need a block.

This is a Vinyasa flow practice building towards Eagle Pose or Garudasana. To prepare for the pose that reflects the DNA molecules, we’ll do some floor-based hip work, some lunges to mobilise the hips and shoulders, and a handful of standing poses that have intermezzos of shoulder work. This is an all-round practice that not only helps with building balance for Eagle pose, but invites us to feel the connection to everything that is in the universe. Props needed: a block. 

Although this Hatha yoga practice massages the spine, it’s also an opportunity to soften and strengthen the central axis of the body through movement. We will begin with David’s favourite, rolling of the joints. From there, some table top and seated spinal moves lead us into a mini-sequence of three poses put together in flow. These poses – twist, reverse warrior and side angle – are repeated using three different leg variations, which focuses our attention on different parts of the spine each time. We will finish with a short release on the floor and Savasana. This longer practice has a slower, gradual start and if you’re short on time, you might choose just to practice the first 45 minutes.

This practice for shoulder, spine and hip mobility all takes place at a wall. (You’ll need about 2 meters’ height and width). We start with arm circles then move into some spinal manipulation while facing the wall. A bit of squatting for strength and then ’squat rolls’ for mobility with the back to the wall. This work is inspired by a dear friend, Daniel Rojas and his Aiyana Movement Method. It is accessible for everyone but may require you taking more space away from the wall or moving more slowly to fit your body’s current needs.

This guided pranayama practice is intended to support you in slowing down, calming the nervous system and releasing anxiety. David guides the whole sequence where we INHALE 4 seconds / HOLD 4 seconds / EXHALE 6 seconds / HOLD 2 seconds ... and repeat. Each round lasts around 2 - 3 minutes and we repeat it 3 times. As this technique includes holding the breath, it is not appropriate for pregnant women or those suffering from high blood pressure. 

Four restorative poses practiced on a bolster where all you need to do is turn 90 degrees between each shape. We start on the right side, then turn to Open Bridge, follow with the left side and finish lying on the belly. Take the time to elevate your pelvis in these shapes and enjoy the rotisserie process (rolling around in very slow motion!) Props: a couple of blankets and a bolster or 2 firm pillows.

A thematic class focusing on moving and stretching the back and shoulders. We start by lying on the ground for some gentle exploration, then build up to some seated movements and eventually to lunge variations. More standing variations plus a bit of balance round out the standing section.The class has a repeated movement with one hand behind the head, bringing the elbow to the opposite knee in different variations. This is to build strength and mobility in three valuable shoulder and back muscles: Pectorals, Trapezius and Latissimus. There are some ‘bonus break’ shoulder strengtheners between the waves and we end by pressing the head to a block to realign with stability.Props needed: a block, plus a blanket for under the knees.

A movement practice incorporating Cat and Cow poses (flexion and extension of the spine) in various shapes and poses to encourage articulation and adaptation of the spine in lots of different directions. We thread this through standing, seated and even twisting poses. You might like to have a blanket for your knees and a block for this practice. 

The road to recovery begins with the first step. This gentle practice is your first step after any illness to re-introduce some movement and free up any stagnation. We start by rolling our joints, then do a lunge sequence for the side body and hips, and we finish propped on a bolster for some three-part breathing and relaxation.Props: Bolster, belt and block.

A restful, relaxing practice starting with Alternate Nostril Breathing, then a few restorative poses done on both sides to support the ability to bend without breaking. We'll practice Reclined twist, Open Bridge / Pelvic Float and Supta Padangusthasana. You'll need a bolster, block and belt.

This ‘gentle’ movement flow practice invites you into your senses while exploring the amazing ways our bodies move. There are quite a bit of hip-opening movements and bending at the knees, which can all be modified to suit your current circumstances. There is also a lot of ‘waving’ through the whole body and mobilising the arms and legs to explore movement and space, all the while, cultivating present moment awareness. A dynamic practice of strength and mobility. Building power in the back body with Bridge lifts and inverted crawling, supporting the front core with front crawling and plank sequences and finally, a little cardio blast at the end with a bit of jumping! This short wake-up class can super charge your day … or finish the evening leaving you ready to shower and sleep!Props: 2 blocks

David introduces his latest mantra chant with a short explanation of one of the most commonly uttered phrases in the yoga world, Om Shanti Shanti Om.

A dynamic exploration of two of the core qualities of a warrior: strength and balance. The class starts on a fairly mellow note with a supine waking flow. We then work on leg strength, core strength and balance, all mixed up together. We finish with shoulder stand or, if you prefer, please take another inversion such as legs up the wall. Props: a belt a block.

Although 'simple' is subjective, this class takes it pretty easy. A little mobilization, a few 'simple' standing poses and then some Yin with Dragonfly and Bananasana. In the Yin poses, David brings out the guitar to serenade you and finishes with a song he wrote in Autumn 2022 that will be released to his Spotify channel on January 31st, 2023 (David's 50th birthday!)Props: two blocks and a bolster.

A little wake up call for the whole body. Not too strenuous, not too easy. Starting with seated spine and hip movements, we will make our way through some rolling around to a handful of burpee-style movements. The grand finale is 2 minutes of shaking and off we go into the rest of our day!

The muscles on the inside of the legs are responsible for keeping the bones in towards the midline. This class strengthens and stretches this set of muscles to bring new awareness to the inner thighs. We’ll practice some butterfly variations, wide legged forward fold variations, different kinds of lunges and frog pose. We finish with a passive stretch of the inner legs and a little mantra serenade. Props: block and a belt.

Slow, smooth movements to move energy and feel what it is like to be alive. Specifically designed as a gentle class for the end of the day, or for slower mornings. This class begins lying on the back with some hip movements and shoulder twists. We make our way to sitting for some spinal awakening and eventually to a standing position. Once standing, we’ll do some shoulder openers followed by a nice body tapping sequence. We finish with alternate nostril breathing.  

Three poses: Reclined Butterfly, prone lying with hips elevated, supported Savasana. Three songs: Hare Krishna, Light of my soul, Oh Amado (from Brenda McMorrow). Make it warm, cozy and distraction free. You deserve this. Props: Bolster, 2 blocks, blanket.

This replay class begins with a seated mobility flow for the upper back and shoulders and repeats an action of one hand behind the head and moving that elbow to the opposite knee in various shapes. After 30 minutes of movement, the class goes to the Yin pose 'Shoulder Bridge' and finishes with a singing meditation.This 'live' class was part of the Joy of Yoga Program recorded in September 2022. 

A mobility practice for the shoulders and upper back. We begin by rolling the joints of the head, neck and shoulders before moving into some dynamic pulses, exploring different movements of the arms. From there, some lunges to create a whole body experience while keeping shoulder movements as a focus. There are a few moments of rest and stretch before moving onwards to Gate pose with variations. We arrive back down on the floor where you will need some space to 'sweep' the arms around. Finally, some time in Shoulder stand with a shoulder bridge relaxation. You’ll need a block, blanket and some floor space for this class. 

Stag is the acrobatic name of the shape with one leg bent, the other leg straight. This class explores many variations of this shape. From lying on the floor, lunging, balancing, shifting weight and more, we’ll work all around the hip joint in this playful practice that finishes with a Shoulder stand (or alternate pose offered!). Stick around for the Savasana serenade and then step off the mat in awe of being alive and how many different ways you can ‘stag’ your legs!

A short class to blast your core! Awaken with Breath of Joy and then Agni Sara Dhauti for your abdominal muscles. Then a playful set of movements that include lunges and core work interspersed between. Some other random movements to activate the core and we finish with some calisthenics-style exercises. After this class, you’ll hopefully feel a bit more alive and strong! This one is meant to be repeated weekly or several times a month to build strength and keep you vibrant. Please have a block and blanket to hand.

An all-time classic in the Mantra world - let's sing to Shiva to give us ease in letting go.   Shiva Shiva Shiva Shambo   Mahadeva ShamboAm / C / G  

This short class is dedicated to the wrists and is intended to offer some relief from strain caused by mobile phone or computer (over)use. We will go through around 20 exercises to move and stretch them. Most of the poses are in a seated position and can also be done in a chair, as long as there is a flat surface for your hands in front of you. Enjoy the exercises and hopefully you can carry them into your daily life to keep your wrists healthy or help them to recover from injury.

A class designed to move and strengthen the shoulder joints. This class has around 20 exercises to mobilise the shoulders, as well as strengthen the arm muscles. This is a more therapeutic / focused class, like a ’shoulder workout’ and is a great complement to other classes or if you are experiencing issues with shoulder instability. This is intended for the ‘yoga curious’ friends of yours. It’s an absolute beginner class for those who are ready to try their first (easy-to-follow and digestible) yoga practice. Invite your partners, kids, parents and friends to check out this practice that has changed your life!  David will introduce the practice in an authentic and sincere way without overly emphasising spiritual “fluff” and keeps the movements accessible to most bodies. We start with a breath investigation, practicing the 3 part breath lying over a cushion. From there some Cat & Cow, leading to very gentle Sun Salutations. Triangle, Twisted Triangle, Side Angle, Twisted Side Angle, Wide leg forward fold and Tree pose are the standing poses and we finish with a few seated poses and final relaxation. Those of you who are teachers are also welcome to use this class as a support tool for adding insights to your beginners classes as well. A slow, mellow movement flow intended to release tension from the day… or relieve stiffness from the morning! Wonderful musician, Josh Brill, has a beautifully hypnotic song that is our soundtrack for this introspective experience. We begin in a seated cross-legged position and wave through the shoulders and spine, eventually leading to a few brief standing shapes. From there, we go back to the floor for some rolling along the side body, and stretching and mobilizing the hips and lower back. The pace is slow, the music is like a drone and the effect can prepare you nicely for rest or bed… or to get up and get on with your day having released any stiffness.Please support Josh and follow him on Spotify and/or buy some of his music.

The amazing chain of muscles on the back of our bodies does a lot of work for mobility and protection. This class focuses on those muscles in a flowing sequence of exercises and poses designed to strengthen and stretch the back side of your body. We start lying on the belly for some exploration and move from there.

Another mellow music flow class from David. This one is themed around being a light in the world to support the various aspects of yourself and the world around you. The practice begins with rolling the joints and then some lunge variations and waves of poses. The second instalment of a more reflective, intermediate-level class. With hopefully enough instruction to get you into and out of poses and a few transitions, the rest of the class is without David’s normal discourse and is an invitation to go inwards and experience shapes, sensations, thoughts and presence.This is also a ‘peak pose’ style class with Natarajasana (Dancer's pose) as our destination. Starting with quiet reflection in Virasana, we then transition through a few waves of lunge variations, preparing the shoulders, spine and hip flexors. We eventually reach Dancer’s pose ready to balance and try a different variation at the wall. After a little cool down, counterpose and more quiet reflection, David serenades your Savasana and invites to stay in the introspective space you've cultivated. Props needed: a belt and blocks.

Modern times are calling us to adapt. This fluid-moving class, which borrows a Beatles song for inspiration, is an invitation to move with liquid grace. We start lying on the back with some stretching, followed by a bit of rolling and hip opening. From there, a little squat series leads into Side angle poses and twists. A bit of a kneeling flow around the shoulders and hips finally concludes this flowing experience.

Inspired by YouTube workouts David has been taking, this class has 20 workout/exercise/mobility drills all performed for 1 minute each. Practice personal responsibility, honour where your body is today and keep coming back to this class to build strength and mobility. A towel for sweat may be helpful too!

Well, David seems to gain too much inspiration from song titles! Here’s another one from the master himself, Bob Dylan. This twist-focused practice opens with a lying twist series. Then in kneeling and then in standing. We’ll do some lunge and wide leg variations - and even balancing twists come into play here. The grand finale is twist in shoulder stand, which can be skipped and done lying to the floor. All the while, David shares some of his life philosophy and a few hummed rounds of this classic Dylan love song. You'll need a block for this class. 

As the title implies, this is a nice practice for a gentle wake up or closing off a busy day. It can also be a great warm up for a more challenging asana practice or even to warm you up for dancing around your living room, kitchen or in the streets! Nothing too complex and can be adapted for all levels of practitioners.

The femur bone meets the pelvis in a ball and socket joint. This allows for a wide range of motion according to the shapes of our bones and muscular structure. The concept of ‘flossing’ involves moving the bones around the joint to lubricate and soften constricted tissues. This workshop-style experience is part practice and part lesson/exploration to look at how internal and external rotation feels in a variety of shapes and poses. David’s EkhartAcademy course, Expanding Horizons, goes into this much deeper with many more experiences along the way. Ahhh... Simple Minds and their great song! And an inspiration to feel alive and use your kicking legs! This powerful practice gets going with rolling the joints and a little floor wake-up. From there, get ready for hip mobility and animal moves-style kicking actions. The intention here isn’t to fight or be aggressive, but to stand up for what is right. This class will have you moving up and down, kicking and flowing and overall feeling empowered by the end... or else exhausted and ready for the Savasana!

Vyana Vayu is the internal wind that flows in all directions and originates at center. This all-round Vinyasa flow practice starts seated to begin the outward movements and eventually makes its way through several waves of poses with movements up, down, forward, backward and side to side. After the movement practice, there’s a brief guided relaxation to distribute your energy throughout the body and even beyond…merging with the world around you.

Inspired by the great Tom Petty, this shoulder and upper body focused practice aims to build strength and mobility through movement and support - all the while, learning to fly in the face of life’s challenges. Starting with a seated shoulder opening sequence to experience two key movements, you will then travel through various Vinyasa waves to put the arm movements into practice and spread your wings. There are lunges, balances and arm balances to play with and we finish with a nice relaxation serenade. Please have a block ready for this practice.

The precious moments between the 'doing' allow us to sit with ourselves and the beauty of life. This practice begins with gentle Cat / Cow with specific actions and pauses. Then some standing stretches, followed by lunges and half splits with more pauses. Finally a Camel and shoulder opening series with pauses, leading into 'Square Breath' - breathing in / Holding / Breathing out / Holding, for equal counts, done with a metronome at 75 BPM. We finish with a few minutes of meditation to appreciate the pause from doing and embrace the realm of being. *Due to the breath retentions in this class, it's not suitable for pregnant women.This class is part of our Body, Breath, Mind program.

A meditative movement experience that begins with rolling the joints and then moves into a short breathing practice to sense the top of the inhale and bottom of the exhale. This gentle practice invites you to rest in the space between the breaths to explore your consciousness. Some Sun Salute variations lead into some side bending and some time in Anantasana - the pose of the serpentine couch of Vishnu who floats on the sea of consciousness. Take some time at the end of class for a Savasana serenade and keep looking into the pauses for the secrets of life.

This is a longer practice to help prepare the body for bound pigeon pose. The sequence takes you through hip rotations, quadricep and hip flexor lengthening, upper arm and armpit chest stretches and a bit of back bending. These are the component parts of the preparation for the pose. The rodeo part utilises the belt to ‘catch’ the pigeon and help you find your version of the pose. David begins by recalling his childhood going to rodeos, which at the time seemed like a fun and exciting thing for a young guy in the late 70’s / early 80’s in America to do. This is a valuable lesson that David weaves through the class: not to beat ourselves up for mistakes in the past, but to learn and grow from them. A short pick-me up and rolling around experience to move energy and get you going! Most of the class will have you rocking back and forth and rolling on your spine, so make sure you are comfortable with that. The progressive sequence gets more challenging as it evolves. It finishes with a heart-beating, rolling flow and a constant reminder to check in with yourself: How does it feeeeeel?!?

Another instalment of my Mellow music flow classes. We start sitting with some arm and spine movements. From there we move to kneeling variations with lunges and some 'getting up and down'. We do a handful of standing poses with a little balance challenge in the middle that can easily be skipped if it no longer feels ‘mellow.’ We end with some backbends and twists to round it all out and there's an optional shoulder stand before a musical relaxation. This restorative yoga sequence is here to support you in breathing deeply, fully and with ease. The poses all focus on the diaphragm region and are designed to help you drop deeply into yourself. Restorative yoga is very prop intensive and for this class you will need a bolster, blanket and belt at least… Bring along everything you have and a few extra blankets and pillows for guaranteed comfort. This dynamic movement class blends various forms of contralateral connection and movements into a facing up and facing down practice. We start with some Sun Salute variations and build the connections of right to left and vice versa. There is quite a bit of core work, along with some shoulder and hip mobilisation as they are required for the final part of the Foot Hand Crawl to Inverted Crawl freestyle! You'll need a bit of space, an open mind and perhaps a towel nearby to wipe your brow!

The increasing role technology plays in our lives is having a huge impact on our skeletal and muscular systems. Many of us spend much of our days rounding forwards, which decreases the strength we have in the back of the neck. This class is specifically for the head, neck and shoulder region, to create strength and mobility in those areas, while also remembering that everything is interconnected. We spend the first part of the class seated, mobilizing the neck in various ways, and then we start to bring in movements for the spine, hips and legs to make a well rounded practice. The middle section includes some standing poses and lunge variations while concentrating on shoulder and neck movements. The class finishes with time in shoulder bridge to passively allow the chest and shoulders to open. You will need a block and a belt for this practice.

This hip-joint focused practice taps into David’s love of rock - this time, The Who’s 'Pinball Wizard' provides the theme. The practice has a lot of movements from a kneeling position so you might like to put some padding underneath your knees. We'll move up and down, right and left, over and around… like a bouncing pinball! Expect to roll around the floor and get up and down in various forms, while moving the hip and shoulder joints in lots of unusual ways. The class finishes with a Shoulder stand so, as always, be especially responsible with this pose.

A more classical Hatha style class with minimal guidance and instruction. This practice calls upon the ‘advanced practitioner’ inside you to fulfil specific intentions through self-defined actions. We start by lying on the back, then do a few seated poses, followed by a standing series of Hatha poses. The class finishes with a Shoulder stand sequence that calls upon the personal responsibility of the asana practitioner to act with care, safety and presence.

A guided musical Savasana experience. Wonderful to use at the end of your practice, or during your Siesta, or at end of the day. This is also an excellent class to try before going to bed. After the guidance through the body and an inner ‘illumination,’ David will serenade you with this song.

'Put your faith in God, but tie your camel first' is an old Egyptian proverb that weaves in and out of this sequence. We begin with a few minutes of Square breath then into Sun Salute variations. From there, the back bending, shoulder-opening, thigh-preparing journey continues with a variety of shapes and poses until we finally reach the Wandering Camel flow. Have a block and a blanket ready for this practice.

A Yin-style practice with live music from Fred Westra. The sequence focuses on shoulders and upper back, which leads into an exploration of the heart centre. Yin poses include: Open Bridge, Criss-Cross Arms, Open Wing, Elbows Supported Prayer Pose and Back Scratcher. In between the stillness, there is some gentle movement. All the while I'm accompanied by Fred's beautiful, improvised melodies. As requested on our Facebook Community Page, here's a follow up to my previous class, Lunge-A-Rama. This class is very leg-focused and a nice balance of strength and mobility. Expect lots of kneeling lunges and awareness of the hip flexors as we go up and down and forward and backward, with and without body weight. If your knees are sensitive, use cushions or blankets underneath them - but be aware, it will make some of the balancing more challenging! At the end, perhaps a shoulder stand or more passive legs up the wall could be a nice bonus for your worked-out legs. Enjoy the flow!

This class is a return to ‘normal’ Vinyasa Flow yoga for David and his two courageous students! Beena and Krista volunteered the night before recording and the whole practice was a spontaneous co-creation. With the theme of a 'courageous heart', this practice is a backbend-focused class. Vinyasa waves of standing poses, balance and backbends lead down to the floor for a few rounds of bending backwards and a nice release of the low back and hips. We end with a Savasana serenade. This all-round movement practice is a chance to awaken the physical body with some mobilization of all the joints, while paying particular attention to where thoughts and attention go. Then we roll around the floor a little for the hips and spine, do some knee pushups for the upper body, a touch of core work, and we finish with life force directed around the face and head. The final moments bring your attention and life force to the heart in the hopes of sharing a feeling of love and compassion with the world.

In this class we travel even farther back into the archives than usual ...to 1976! David taps into Lionel Richie and the Commodores for ‘Easy like Sunday morning’ as a theme for this mellow flow practice. We being lying on the back for a 'wake up and stretch' feeling. This is followed by variations on lunges, stretches, standing and seated poses, plus flowing movements to make whatever day it is feel like Sunday morning. This is an overall, full body practice, which includes even mobilisation for your eyes, fingers, toes and face! We touch upon almost everything in the flow but when it finishes in Shoulder stand, (which you're free to skip), make sure you stick around for Savasana and a little musical treat!

This sequence focuses on moving the feet around with various forms of body weight to give a feeling of stretch and release for those all-important foundational parts of our body. It is accessible for most levels of practitioners and the class can be practice alone or in combination with another  one with a different focus. Another instalment of David's music flows. This one is an all-round, 'multi-vitamin' class that touches all parts of the body and various aspects of being human. We start with the Rolling of the Joints series and when the music starts, so does the first wave. Inspired by Sir Walter Scott's famous quote, “Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive," this class is a journey through Skandasana - the Spider pose - combined with the philosophical theme of Satya, truthfulness. We start by lying on the floor with some ‘gentle’ opening of the legs and lower back. From there, a squatting series leads into standing poses that weave in variations of Skandasana. We finish with Frog pose and, after this practice, probably a whole new relationship with sensation on the inner thighs!Some variations are challenging on the knees so be sure to practice personal responsibility and be sensitive to your knees!

A spontaneous collaboration between musician and mover… In this unplanned class David is accompanied by Fred Westra playing live guitar. In the beginning, there are moments of fun and flow. This leads into more stable and strong poses and when Fred reaches the Rock and Blues melodies, there is some fire and powerful moves to explore. These include kick throughs, an arm balance variation and lots of dynamic leg and spine waves. Inspired by the 1980s (again!), David uses the Broadway musical ‘A Chorus Line’ as a theme for an energizing and exciting moving practice. It starts with lying on the floor for about 10 minutes in a twists and legs sequence. Soon you will be rolling around and lifting your legs in a variety of shapes and forms to awaken the ‘yoga butt’ and supporting cast. There are kick-through movements, high kicks and balance involved, as well as self-reflection and motivation in this journey towards ONE ...singular sensation.

This class was a LIVE session recorded on 21st July 2020.  It's a 30-minute, action-packed session that starts low and grows to lots of challenging balance and weight transfers to and from arms and legs. We move all over the place and at the end, I was a bit sweaty… maybe you too?!

This full-length class has some signature ‘Julie Martin Moves’ in it that I've integrated into my practice and played around with. We begin with some seated twists and side bends, then move through some repeated standing 'waves', progressively building on each time.  Expect quite a bit of twisting, hip and leg work in the Vinyasa flow 'waves'. Welcome to your personal, one-hour retreat. This practice has three ‘waves’ of gentle Yang Asana, Yin poses and mantra.  Wave one is for the hips and lower back with a lying-on-the-floor hip series, followed by a 3-minute squat and a mantra to finish.  Wave two is for the shoulders and upper back with some mobilisation, a Shoulder bridge and a mantra finish.  Wave three is for the middle back with a kneeling flow twist into 'Rolling Panda' Yin pose and, you've guessed it, a mantra to finish! A morning flow practice to wake up body and heart and get ready for a day of doing! We start with a short heart centering and move from there to lying on the back. We mobilize the hips and lower back and do some isolated twists and a fun, core activation sequence of rolling around. From there, a little bit of getting up and down, some eyes and shoulder movement and we finish with a morning shake! We end with another heart centering so we leave our mats with a feeling of being awake in our actions to take care of ourselves and others. You'll need a block for this class.

Gentle Asana and Pranayama to help us take off the mask of who we ‘need to be’ in daily life.  This very gentle, restorative practice begins with a face massage then round one of alternate nostril breathing (Nad Shodhana). This is followed by a couple of restorative poses - diaphragm separation and a reclined twist. After that, a round of 'increased exhalation' Pranayama to drop even deeper inside. Finally, lying on the floor with a leg in the air and finishing the asana practice with Yin Dragonfly opens the way to a final round of alternate nostril breathing to stay connected to who you are beyond the masks of daily life.Beautiful, meditative music from Charlie Roscoe.

Welcome to this Vinyasa flow practice that has a ‘peak wave’ involving shoulder mobility, hip mobility, strength and balance. All this in a progressive build-up that repeats a few times, adding new layers each wave. Make sure you stay around for Savasana and a well-deserved serenade. Not only one of the greatest R&B Funk Soul groups of the 70’s and 80’s… Earth Wind & Fire are also elements of nature that possess different qualities and bring about new energies! We start on the ground with Earth, to warm up the hips and legs. Then comes Wind where balancing poses and movement are the focus. We finish with Fire and a blast off for the cardiovascular system, hips and legs. One of their EW&F's greatest hits (according to David) 'Shining Star’ offers the motivational and philosophical theme for this 30 min "soul-full, FUNky" experience.

Many expressions of our bodies as Stardust… metaphorically and physically.

A slow, inward journey away from distraction and into the subtle layers of being alive. This class begins by focusing the mental energy to the heart and then bringing the thoughts down. We begin by balancing a block on the forehead but feel free to modify and adjust to make this possible by adding support to the sides or even skip this if it brings up any anxiety or stress. From there, we move onto some supine twists, spend some time with a leg in the air and finish in Child's Pose. This is a perfect practice for wintertime, night time or any moment that you are able to withdraw from the external world and drop inside yourself. You'll need a bolster, 2 blocks and a belt. Callisthenics is a form of exercise consisting of a variety of movements which exercise large muscle groups, such as running, standing, grasping, pushing, etc. These exercises are often performed rhythmically and with minimal equipment, as body weight exercises.  Consciousness is being present in whatever you do. Here, David puts them together! This is a blast-off fitness class in 30 minutes to strengthen the back, shoulders and hamstrings while having fun and practicing present moment awareness along the way. You'll need a couple of blocks for this class.

This sequence is inspired by my friend Jacopo, based in Italy, who created a 'method' called Anukalana. The first wave begins lying on the floor and uses momentum and breath to flow through a progression of poses.  We will do the first movements, repeat a few times and then add more movements before building up to ‘the full series’ that is inspired by the Anukalana approach. From there, two short standing waves for more shoulder and leg mobility and strength round out the practice.  This is a wonderful, 'gentle’ start to the day, or to wind down in the evening … or indeed, any other time you want to do it. Because of the physical focus, there is little to no integrated philosophy - so if you like that part of my teaching, you will have to remember things from other classes ;-).

This Yin-ish practice, accompanied by restful background music, begins with about 30 minutes of gentle hip opening on the floor.  Then it's time for some ‘real’ Yin poses with Shoulder Bridge and Butterfly. From there it gets a bit more restorative with a prone, supported hip pose and then we're back to Yin for a Sphinx pose. We move back and forth a little during the practice, all the while inviting stillness, gentle movement and awareness. We finish with a neck release pose and, just like that, 75 minutes is over. Props needed: Bolster, belt and block.

Chanting Mantras can have a profound effect on the body/mind connection from a physical and energetic perspective. This chant to Shiva, ‘Lord of Destruction’, is an invitation for ease in accepting life’s inevitable changes.  After a brief intro and cameo from Hunter the dog, we chant for about 11 minutes as a meditation: Om Namah Shivaya __ Om Namah Om Namah Shivaya __ Shiva Om Shiva Shiva Om Namah__ Shiva Shiva Om Namah__ I played this with the capo on the 1st fret since my voice needed it at the time of recording with these chord positions: Am / G / F F / G / Am

Find that old 'Journey' song and get ready to move, sweat and roll around with David. We start fairly gently by warming up on the floor and then take off from there. We practice Lunges with step throughs, Lunges with different distances, do some upper body work, crawling and have a nice, little roll-around to finish it all up.  This is a MovNat/Animal Moves-inspired class to build strength and keep your faith in yourself alive. Don’t stop believing!

A thirty minute practice focusing on movement and breath. A fairly 'basic' Vinyasa yoga class, which is great for those who are new to yoga or for those with more ‘advanced’ practices who wish to step back to basics. We start by rolling the joints, then a few Sun Salute variations and then back down to the floor for a backbend, some breathing… and voila, finish! Prepare to drop in … turn the lights low, clear distractions and have your props ready for a Yin / Restorative practice of poses with some gentle movement in between.  We start flowing very slowly on the floor, then a Yin pose. More 'super chill' flow and a restorative pose, some mellow movements and finishing resting in a supine supported position.  All the while, explore your frequencies inside and out and how to harmonise with sound and the universe around us. In this sequel to my first class, Thoracic Park, - we expand on the theme of strengthening and mobilising the thoracic spine. The whole practices focuses on the middle of the back from all directions and is designed to support you in having a healthy, mobile and powerful back, free from pain!  There's quite a bit of work here so expect to feel empowered after almost 45 minutes of effort, finishing with a releasing pose on the bolster. You'll need a block and a bolster for this practice.

This Buddhist mantra, called the ‘Heart Sutra’ is a reflection of our evolution to move beyond the trappings of the material world.  Gate Gate Para Gate Parasam Gate Bodhisvaha There are many variations and interpretations. I like this one: “Gone Beyond, gone beyond the beyond... everyone gone beyond to the other shore, awakening. Who recognises that sinking, Monday morning feeling of needing to do something you may not want to? This requested class is a mellow, fluid way to get the day (and the week) off to a good start - but it's also great for any other time of the day, or week. Starting in Child's pose (adapt for your knees as necessary), then onto some rolling waves and a few rounds of Lunge variation movements. There's also a short, supine section and we end with an energising Breath of Fire / Kaphalabati. Have a wonderful day!

In this ‘mini-retreat’ from life, enjoy some singing - 'Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare' - and invite in the sweet, soft vibes... We then do some gentle movements to greet the spine and a couple of Yin poses. We finish with a treat for the eyes and the toes to feel balanced inside and out, top to bottom. A more dynamic style of flow practice to explore inner and outer space. The warm-up movements start to cultivate heat and open the joints and then a few Vinyasa waves to take you up and down and in and out, exploring space. The class finishes with a Shoulderstand, which you are always welcome to skip or modify.
